Dreaming of Somewhere New

Personally, this is one of my favourite photos. I took this back on an autumn day in Victoria Park. The purpose of this photo was to create a feeling of nostalgia and mysteriousness. The tracks lead to a place completely unknown, and I believe this could speak to a lot of people. The black and white shows the value in this photo and the bare trees in the background show the coldness of the area.

  1. Looking at this picture I get a feeling of abandonment, mostly because it’s a train track and since people mostly use cars in this day and age trains aren’t use very often anymore.

I like how the train tracks act as a leading line into the trees into the trees and across. There is a lot of contrast which gives the photo some depth. Something you could have done to make this an even better picture is to try experiment with different camera angles and positions. Overall this is a lovely picture.

The sharpness of this photo is excellent; you can see the details needed to see. But again experimenting with photos would make this picture stronger.

    • Thank you for your input. I feel like putting this picture in black & white definitely developed a strong mood for the photo. I do agree with your advice; looking back on this photo now, I realize that I could have made it a lot stronger by capturing it at different angle. That’s something I will keep in mind for next time. Thanks again!

  2. I like the way that the railroad starts from the edge of the image and runs into the distance and I think the choice to make it black & white was a good one, however I would have tried to get the curve of the railroad more into the top third of the image. I think that there could also be more contrast amongst the trees in the back.

    • Thank you for your feedback. I agree, the black and white was a good choice for this photo; it really emphasized the mood. I agree with your advice. Next time I’ll plan on shooting from different angles and making sure the trees in the background are more in focus and show more contrast. Thanks again!
